Late British actress and award-winning screenwriter, Kay Mellor, appeared in several on-screen dramas such as her self-adaptation of Jane Eyre (1997), Stan the Man (2002), A Good Thief (2002), Gifted (2003), and Three Girls in Blue.
Mellor was the main character in This Is Your Life (2000) and on BBC’s Desert Island Discs (2017).
Although she wrote Fat Friends (2000–05), and Children’s Ward (1989–2000).
Other works by Mellor’s include also Families, Band of Gold (1995); Playing the Field (1998); Between the Sheets (2003) and Strictly Confidential (2006).
Outside of television, Mellor wrote feature films ‘Girls’ Night’, which took home the Audience Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 1998.
Her 1999 feature film ‘Fanny and Elvis’ won the Audience Prize at the Dinard British Film Festival.
Her drama, “Some Kind of Life” was nominated at BAFTA and eventually won the Prix Niki Award. Her work ‘Fat Friends’ in was transformed into a stage musical.
Mellor passed away on May 25, 2022, at age 71 from an unknown cause.
