The Raven Drum Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Allen and his wife Lauren Monroe. Famous English drummer Richard John Cyril Allen has been a vital member of the hard rock group Def Leppard since 1978.
He is well-liked by his followers and is known as “The Thunder God.” In fact, he is listed as the seventh greatest drummer of all time on the UK website Gigwise.
Allen was traveling on the A57 road in the countryside a few miles west of Sheffield on the afternoon of December 31, 1984, when he and his then-girlfriend Miriam Barendsen were involved in a catastrophic vehicle accident.
He crashed his Corvette C4 into a dry stone wall and into a field while trying to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed.
He was involved in an accident and lost his left arm. Although physicians were able to reattach his arm at first, an infection eventually forced them to amputate it. Allen, though, was adamant about continuing to play the drums despite losing his arm.
In order to continue performing with Def Leppard, he adapted by using an electronic drum kit that was specially made for the purpose. Up until August 16, 1986, when Allen triumphantly returned to the stage at the Monsters of Rock festival held at Castle Donington, the band took a vacation from live concerts.
